Joan O’Brien: Professional Career

It didn’t take long for the public and other entertainers to notice her talent, one of whom was Cliffie Stone, the host of the television show Hometown Jamboree.

It is also known that Joan’s performance on The Bob Crosby Show was so outstanding that other entertainers sent in proposals to have her appear on their shows.

Lawrence Welk was one of these entertainers, as he, too, saw Joan on the show and fell in love with her singing talent.

In 1959, he hired her to stand in for the singer Alice Lon for a week and really wanted to hire her on a long-term basis, but her young age at the time made him reconsider.

Joan and Malcolm married on August 4, 1979, and lived in Auburn, California. The countdown began, one year, two years until they were still together after five years.
