He subsequently spent two seasons with Herlev IF from 1992 to 1994 before joining B.93 in the winter of 1995.
In 1994, he made 18 appearances for the North Florida Ospreys. He retired as a football player at the age of 26 after three seasons with B93.
Hjulmand was the head coach of Lyngby from January 1, 2006, to July 7, 2008, when he left to become an assistant coach with FC Nordsjaelland.
From 1 July 2011 to 18 May 2014, he was the head coach of Nordsjaelland. He was the head coach of FSV Mainz 05 during the 2014-15 season.
Hjulmand returned as Nordsjaelland’s manager on January 1, 2016.
