Kenny Wayne Shepherd: Birth, Parents & Education

Kenny Wayne Brobst, or more commonly known as Kenny Wayne Shepherd, was born on 12 June 1977.

His father, Ken Shepherd, was a local radio host and possessed a sizable music collection that he was able to tinker with as a child.

He began playing guitar at the age of three after receiving a guitar toy from his grandmother and took it more seriously after meeting Stevie Ray Vaughn at one of his father’s gigs.

Shepherd also began to take music more seriously while attending Caddo Magnet High School.

He began writing music and recording demos for himself after studying his father’s music collection.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd: Professional Career

Kenny Wayne Shepherd is an American songwriter, singer, and guitarist who became famous for his chart-topping blues and jazz compositions.

Giant Records signed him to a recording contract at the age of sixteen after viewing his video performance at the Red River Revel Art Festival.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd released his first album, “Ledbetter Heights,” in 1995. The album was an instant success, reaching Platinum status. His chart-topping singles “Born with a Broken Heart” and “Deja Voodoo” were well-received by his fans and became US chart-toppers.

Not only did his debut album catapult him to fame, but it also significantly increased his net worth.

After three years, he released his second album, “Trouble Is…”, which also went platinum and featured chart-topping singles “True Lies” and “Blue on Black.”

Shepherd would go on to release several additional albums, including 1999’s “Live on,” 2004’s “The Place You’re In,” 2007’s “10 Days Out: Blues from the Backroads,” and 2010’s live album “Live! In Chicago,” all of which cemented Shepherd’s status as one of the best blues musicians of his generation.

His net worth was also increased by the sales of his albums, not to mention the constant touring around the world to promote them.

Shepherd also performed on television, which helped spread the word about his music. “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” and “The Late Show with David Letterman” are among the shows on which he has appeared.

Additionally, he was frequently featured in publications such as Vanity Fair, Blender, Spin, and Rolling Stone. His numerous television and magazine appearances aided in his wealth accumulation as well.

Shepherd formed The Rides with fellow musicians Barry Goldberg and Stephen Stills in 2013. The trio released an album titled “Can’t Get Enough” in 2013.

Shepherd is still active in the music industry today, performing with his band The Rides and recently joining the 14th Annual Independent Music Awards judging panel.

Shepherd has been married to Hannah Gibson – the actress Mel Gibson’s daughter – since 2006, and the couple has three children together.
