Lance LePere is a successful fashion designer in his own right, having risen to the position of creative director of women’s design at the fashion brand Micheal Kors.

However, due to his association with and marriage to the brand’s chief creative officer, he is better known to the general public as Michael Kors’ partner.

The two made headlines after becoming one of New York’s first gay couples to marry after being together for over two decades.

Lance Lepere: Birth, Parents, Siblings & Education

Lance LePere was born in Belleville, Illinois on an undisclosed date in 1970 to Harold and Dixie LePere. While it is unknown what his mother did for a living, his father, known as Hap, was an architect who famously assisted in the design of Memorial Hospital in Belleville.

Lance grew up with three other siblings: a brother named Scott, and two sisters named Nicole Sinn and Michelle Hewer.

Although there are no details about Lance LePere’s early life and childhood, it is known that he attended and graduated from Belleville East High School before leaving home and moving to New York.

He moved to New York at the age of 17 to pursue a career in the fashion industry. After a few years, in 1990, he found work as an intern in Michael Kors’ company and quickly rose to prominence in the fashion world.

Lance Lepere: Relationship Status

As previously stated, Lance LePere first met Michael Kors when he was hired as an intern at the designer’s firm. The two were said to have bonded over their shared interests in various things, both inside and outside of the fashion world, and to have quickly developed intimacy.

While LePere was working at Kors’ Paris store, the two reportedly had meals together at Joe Allen restaurant and soon began dating despite their 12-year age difference.

He and Michael Kors obtained a marriage license at the City Clerk’s Office in Manhattan on August 3, 2011, after what has been described in the media as a 21-year courtship period between the couple.

The couple was said not to have planned an elaborate ceremony, but a few weeks later, on August 16, 2011, on Dune Beach in Southampton, Long Island, New York, they had a barefoot wedding ceremony officiated by Southampton Mayor Mark Epley.

Kors and LePere share residences in New York and elsewhere. They own an apartment in Greenwich Village in Lower Manhattan, a hamlet on Fire Island in Suffolk County, New York, and a house on Water Island in the United States Virgin Islands.

Lance Lepere: Mother Battled Cancer

Lance LePere’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer when he was only two years old, just a few years after he was born, and she began her long battle with the disease.

According to the story, his mother used to call her cancer medication “beauty pills.” She also made a point of never speaking negatively about her illness or the treatment she was receiving to her son, even after he was old enough to handle the situation.

Dixie LePere’s cancer battle lasted 33 years, until her death in 2003.

Lance Lepere: Donation & Charity

Lance LePere’s mother’s long cancer battle was said to have lasted as long as it did because of the treatment she received at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, where both of his parents served on the board.

LePere and his husband Michael Kors donated $750,000 to the hospital in memory of both of his parents, and specifically in appreciation of what the hospital did for his mother.

In recognition of his parents’ generosity, the hospital’s foundation decided to rename the breast health center at Memorial Hospital the Harold and Dixie LePere Breast Health Center.
