Lee Hoi-chuen was a popular Cantonese opera singer and cinema actor. Lee Hoi-chuen is best known as the father of cinematic legend Bruce Lee.

Hoi-Chuen was born in China and spent about a year in San Francisco around the time Bruce Lee was born.

He was also the father of Robert Lee, the founding member and lead singer of the ‘Thunderbirds,’ a well-known rock band.

Hoi-Chuen participated in almost seventy films during his thirty-year acting career.

‘Robbing the Dead,’ ‘Christams Tree,’ and ‘Hundreds of Birds Adoring a Phoenix’ are among his early films.

Near the conclusion of his career, he was signed for many films and was essentially working on five to six films at the same time.

Hoi-Chuen died in 1965, just a few days after his 64th birthday.

‘The Idiot Husband,’ ‘Black Punch 4000,’ and ‘Ong Bak 4’ are among his most recent features.

Hoi-Chuen was played by Tony Leung Ka-fai in the posthumous film ‘My Brother.’

Lee Hoi-chuen was born in Shangcunzhen, Guangdong, China, on February 4, 1901.

He was raised by his father, Hou-Chen Lee, and his older brother, Fun-li Lee.

Hoi Chuen Lee started his own family and moved to Hong Kong after marrying the charming Grace Lee Ho.

Peter Jung Sum Lee, their first child, was born on October 23, 1939.

They went on a US tour with a Cantonese Opera Company the following year, which took them to San Francisco.

Grace gave birth to their second child, Bruce Jun Fan Lee, better known as Bruce Lee, while on tour in 1940.

Bruce Lee went on to become a famous martial artist actor.

When Bruce was three months old, the couple returned to Hong Kong, where he was born.

Eight years later, on December 16, 1948, Grace and Hoi-Chuen had their third son, Lee Jun-Fai.

He rose to notoriety as the main singer for ‘The Thunderbirds.’

In his early twenties, Hoi-Chuen grew interested in theater and opera.

Then there was a gradual excursion into the realm of filmmaking and art films.

Hoi-Chuen was a natural performer who made his film debut in the Cantonese film ‘Robbing the Dead’ in 1939.

He played a supporting role in the film alongside Li Haiquan, Lin Meinei, and Zhu Puquan.

The film was directed by Feng Zhigang.

After the film, Hoi-Chuen travelled to San Francisco for opera performances at the ‘Mandarin Theatre,’ and returned after 15 months.

He had little film prospects when he returned to Hong Kong, so he worked in the theater until 1947.
