Leslie Nielsen was born on February 11, 1926, in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Mabel Elizabeth (née Davies) and Ingvard Everson Nielsen.
His mother was from Wales, and his father was a Royal Canadian Mounted Police constable born in Canada.
His elder brother Eriksen served as a Member of Parliament, cabinet minister, and Deputy Prime Minister of Canada from 1984 to 1986.
He also has a half-brother named Gilbert Nielsen. He is of Canadian and American descent, as well as Danish-Welsh ancestry.
He received his diploma from the Victoria School of Performing and Visual Arts in Edmonton. During World War II, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and trained as an aerial gunner.
