Louis Allen was born on April 25, 1919, in Mississippi. On the urging of civil rights activist Julian Bond, Allen, who had witnessed the murder of another activist, Herbert Lee, alerted authorities to the identity of the murderer. Tragically, this act resulted in Allen’s own death. He enlisted in the United States Army in the last years of World War II.
