Luke’s career began at St. Francis DeSales High School. After redshirting for the Buckeyes in 1992, Fickell distinguished himself as a defensive player, setting a school record with 50 consecutive starts at nose guard from 1993 to 1996.
He lined up with Dan Wilkinson as a freshman. He was caught by a torn pectoral muscle in 1997, yet despite this, he began the 1997 Rose Bowl.
His squad won both games against Arizona State. After graduating from Ohio State in 1997, Fickell signed a deal with the New Orleans Saints and was chosen as an undrafted free agent in the NFL.
After ripping the ACL in both of his knees, he was forced to spend the rest of his tenure on the injured reserve list. The team later released him.
