Malik Willis began his career as a football player in high school. After transferring to Roswell for his senior year, he scored 2,562 passing yards and 1,033 rushing yards for a total of 37 touchdowns.
He attended Auburn University in 2017 and 2018. He appeared in 15 games while there. He rushed for 309 yards and two scores while completing 11 of 14 passes for 69 yards and a touchdown. Due to NCAA transfer restrictions, he was transferred to Liberty in 2019 and did not play any games.
The following season, he appeared in ten games and accumulated 2,250 throwing yards and 20 touchdowns, as well as 944 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns. He appeared in 13 games in 2021, accumulating 2,857 throwing yards and 27 touchdowns, as well as 878 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns.
