Roth made his television debut in the 1990 film “Goodnight Sweet Wife: A Murder in Boston.” This led to another opportunity, as he was cast as Clark Munsinger in the show “The Antagonists.”

Following a guest appearance on “Melrose Place,” he gained some notoriety for his work on “Roseanne,” alongside his future wife Laurie Metcalf.

The ABC sitcom follows the lives of the Connors, a working-class family in the United States.

He stayed with the show for a year before moving on to work on “Blink,” a thriller starring Madeleine Stowe and Laurie Metcalf that was nominated for a Crystal Globe award at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

During the same year, he appeared as a regular cast member on the short-lived sitcom “Blue Skies.

In 1997, he had another main cast role in “Crisis Center,” which only aired for a few months due to a lack of initial success.

He worked on a number of feature films in the late 1990s, including “Chicago Cab” and “‘Til There Was You.”
