Who is Michael Manzo?

Season 2 of Life Below Zero: Next Generation, a spinoff of the popular National Geographic show Life Below Zero, has arrived, as has its star, Michael Manzo.

The show featured an eclectic group of people who were tired of living a comfortable modern life and decided to try their luck in Alaska’s most remote and unforgiving areas. Michael Manzo appeared alongside Johnny Rolfe, Alex Javor, Kaleb, Brittany Rowland, and Chris and Jessi Morse in the film.

Michael Manzo- Birth, Parents, Siblings & Education

Michael Manzo was born in 1992, making him 29 years old in 2021. Regrettably, his birthday was not revealed. As a result, his zodiac sign remains a mystery to us.

He grew up in Northern Maine, and his life wasn’t all that different. Along with his family, he traveled, hunted, and fished from “double-ended and square stern canoes.” Yes, he said, a canoe was a popular choice of boat for many of the rivers, lakes, and streams there. Furthermore, he had never seen jet boats used on shallow rivers.

APU is an abbreviation for Alaska Pacific University, which is where Michael received his higher education. He graduated in 2014 after spending his senior year researching “freighter canoes and adapting hydrodynamic fuel-efficient designs for Alaska’s waterways.”

Michael’s grandmother was also a skilled craftswoman. She did, however, create a basket, snowshoe, and paddle around Eel Ground Reserve in New Brunswick. She also appeared in the book Lives in Our Hands.

Michael Manzo– Professional Career

When it comes to his time on Life Below Zero, Michael quickly became a fan favorite after first appearing in the first season of Life Below Zero’s spinoff Life Below Zero: Next Generation in fall 2020. Michael didn’t disappoint his fans when he returned for season 2 of the show, displaying his Native knowledge and survival skills in the harsh and unforgiving Alaskan wilderness. Throughout the show, we could see him preparing his body for winter, improving his hunting skills, and constructing a new cabin.

Michael was the co-owner and creator of Yukon Freightworks Canoe Company in addition to his Life Below Zero. He decided to start the company after meeting a couple of old canoeists in Alaska who told him about the “jack-ass lifts” used on 19-foot Grumman square stern canoes. As a result, he desired to create a motor that used less fuel and was more efficient.

Before all of this, Michael served in the military between 2002 and 2010. He revealed that he was stationed at Fort Richardson and had even served a tour in Iraq. He tried a 9-5 job at a canoe paddle mill in Maine after retiring from the military, but it wasn’t fulfilling enough for his adventurous soul. As a result, he traveled to Alaska.

Michael’s motto was shared. “There is a cure for restlessness in the human spirit, and that cure is not becoming too comfortable, that cure is pushing the boundaries and facing the unknown, facing your fears.”
