Michael Sweet- Professional Career

Michael and his brother formed the Roxx Regime in the early 1980s, which performed at local clubs. He was the band’s lone guitarist at the time, but the members wanted to shift the perception of heavy metal as satanic and bring Christian rock into the mainstream, so they changed the name to Stryper.

He would go on to become the band’s lead vocalist and lead guitarist, as well as writing music for them and co-producing and arranging a majority of their work.

Before their fame began to wane in the 1990s, they had published five successful studio albums. Sweet left Stryper in 1992 to pursue a solo career after nine years with the band.

He put out a demo album called “Unstryped,” which had songs he wanted to write for the band. His first self-titled album was a commercial success, selling over 250,000 copies before he released “Real” in 1996, which garnered him a Dove Award nomination.

He subsequently took a break from music and relocated to Massachusetts to work for his father-in-cranberry law’s and campground company, Maple Park.

It wasn’t until 1998 that he decided to release another album, this time self-produced and titled “Truth,” which gained widespread acclaim. As a result, he signed with Restless Records and had the album re-released in 2000.

He was approached by Boston’s Tom Scholz seven years later whether he wanted to be one of the lead singers and guitarists for a tribute event to the life of Brad Delp, which prompted him to join the band during their summer 2008 tour.

Michael began performing with Stryper again before rejoining Boston, and the band decided to resume live performances.

They collaborated on a new album, “Reborn,” and he continued to work with the band while still pursuing a solo career, releasing the solo album “Him,” which featured traditional hymns, before beginning work on “Murder by Pride,” which was published in 2009.

Before she died of ovarian cancer two years later, he released an album called “Touched,” which was dedicated to her. He’d go on to do a world tour before releasing a new album called “The Covering.”

Stryper released two new albums in 2013, named “Second Coming” and “No More Hell to Pay,” as well as collaborations with other members of the band.

Michael released another solo album, “One Sided War,” three years later, while Stryper was also working on a new album, “Fallen.” He’s also collaborating with Lynch Mob creator George Lynch.
