The 43-year-old woman ran a Day Care Center in Minneapolis. A father dropped off his son at Karia’s house in November 2016. Later, as she led her to the basement, the father heard the cry of a baby.

He dashed into the basement and discovered a 16-month-old toddler hanging from a noose.

He did, however, save the child and flee to a nearby hospital. Karia then fled the house in her minivan as well. She collided with another vehicle.

When the car’s owner, “Salvador Lema,” came out to inspect the damage, Karia dragged him 10 blocks down the street. Later, she collided with “Jacob Carrigan,” a 29-year-old bicyclist. Both were severely injured, with numerous broken bones.

She also threatened to jump after hitting a pregnant woman’s car near the Par Avenue overpass. People around her grabbed her until the police arrived.

On July 16, 2018, she was found guilty of attempted murder and third-degree assault. Hennepin County court sentenced the 43-year-old to ten years probation.

In addition, she must comply with the court’s mental health treatment and will be subject to electronic home monitoring for at least two months.
