Nathan Willett: Musical Journey, and Cold War Kids

During their Biola University days, Nathan met the other members of the current band at Jonnie Russell’s apartment. His band consists of bassist Matt Maust, guitarist David Quon, pianist Matthew Schwartz, and drummer Joe Plummer, in addition to him. The band members have a close bond, and they are now considered veterans in the realm of rock music. Their followers are enthralled by their music during live performances.

Their band formed in 2004 and immediately began performing concerts and playing music together. Monarchy Music, an independent record label, released their first releases. They signed with Downtown/V2 in 2006 and began releasing albums. They made their debut with Robbers and Cowards, which sold 200,000 copies, and followed it up with Loyalty to Loyalty in 2008.

Mine is Yours, the band’s third album, was released in 2011. It garnered mixed reviews, but it was mostly praised for its unique musical tones and lyrical content.

Dear Miss LonelyHearts, the musical band’s fourth album, was published in 2013. Hold My Home, their fifth album, was released in 2014. The band switched from Downtown/V2 to Capitol Records in the fall of 2016. They made the decision to pay homage to their birthplace.

As a result, they released A Divine in April 2017. This was their sixth studio album, and the band members are quite pleased of it. Nathan had this to say about LA Divine:

“LA Divine is an attempt to embody some of things – to unravel some of the classic clichés about L.A. and look at them differently.”

Nathan stated about their musical evolution:

“The band had changed in a variety of ways. I believe we are fortunate to have a sound that we enjoy, and this has been true for us since the first record. So, in some ways, we’ve been circling and making our way back to it, trying to write the best song we can within that sound.”

The band would be performing at the Corona Capital Music Festival on November 19, 2017.
