She worked as a lobbyist there until 2011, representing clients such as Walt Disney Company, Duke Energy, and others in areas such as school boards and the marijuana industry. Nikki entered politics in 2018 when she ran as a Democrat for Florida Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

She advocated for lowering barriers to medical marijuana use and spoke out against the Florida Medical Marijuana Legalization Initiative’s inaction. Nikki took moves to put medical marijuana regulation under the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ jurisdiction.
