Nikolai Vitti’s Professional Career

Nikolai created a School Allocation Plan that distributed resources evenly across over 160 schools, passed a $1.7 billion budget, and completed a reorganization of the District Office that shifted resources to schools, including the expansion of music and art programs at each elementary and middle school, all while following the new Strategic Plan. Dr. Vitti formerly served as the Chief Academic Officer of Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) before being appointed Superintendent of Duval County.

In 2013, M-DCPS was awarded the Broad Prize for Excellence in Urban Excellence.

He oversaw the county’s 66 lowest-performing schools as Chief Academic Officer, as well as the district’s work in Language Arts/Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies, Career and Technical Education, Early Childhood Education/Head Start, School Improvement, Title I, HIPPY, Title II, and Summer Programs.

Dr. Vitti was the Assistant Superintendent of the Education Transformation Office (ETO) before becoming the district’s Chief Academic Officer, where he oversaw a region of 26 schools designated as “persistently lowest-achieving” by the USDOE/FLDOE.

During his supervision, the 26 ETO schools improved in almost every area of school accountability, and all previously designated Intervene Schools (lowest-performing category) improved and avoided punishments.

Furthermore, by emphasizing the importance of fostering a college-going culture in secondary schools, each of the ten high schools increased their graduation rate by an average of 12 percentage points, and participation and performance in Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, and Industry Certification courses increased significantly.

Under his guidance, both the USDOE and the FLDOE recognized ETO as a model for urban education and turnaround.
