Nora Fingscheidt’s Childhood & Education
Nora Fingscheidt was born in the city of Brunswick in 1983. She comes from a family with no artistic ancestors. Nora is a family-oriented actress based in Hamburg.
Nora attended classes in both Braunschweig and Buenos Aires. From 2008 to 2017, Fingscheidt studied scenic direction at the Baden-Wurttemberg Film Academy.
She ran her own film school in Berlin. At the same time, Sigrid Andersson is teaching her how to direct actors. Nora moved to Berlin in 2003 after finishing her education, which included a year in Argentina and work at the Brunswick Theater. She enrolled at Berlin’s Freie Universität to study Latin American Studies, Journalism, and Law.
Nora Fingscheidt’s Professional Career
Nora was a driving force behind the formation of Film Arche, Europe’s largest self-organized film school for screenwriting, direction, cinematography, cutting/editing, and production.
She served on the board of directors, created youth projects, and was an active member of the European network NISI MASA. As if that wasn’t enough, she also completed Sigrid’s one-and-a-half year acting coach training program.
Synkope, her short film, received an honorable mention at the Dresden Film Festival in 2012 and was nominated for the German Short Film Prize in 2011.
Fingscheidt received additional invites to the Max Ophuls Prize for his short films Zwischen den Zeilen, Bruderlein, and Die Lizenz. Her graduation film, Without This World, a documentary about the lives of Argentine Mennonites, won her the award in 2017. For her film System Crasher, Fingscheidt was nominated for the Alfred Bauer Prize and the Berliner Morgenpost Reader’s Jury Prize, which she won at the 69th Berlinale in 2019. System Crasher was submitted by Germany for Best International Feature Film at the 2020 Academy Awards, but it was not chosen for the shortlist.
‘The Unforgivable,’ Nora Fingscheidt’s upcoming Netflix drama film, is written by Peter Craig, Hillary Seitz, and Courtenay Miles, and is based on Sally Wainwright’s 2009 British miniseries Unforgiven. Sandra Bullock plays a woman who attempts to rebuild her life after serving time in prison for a violent crime.
It will be Fingscheidt’s first English-language production following her debut German-language feature System Crasher, which follows a problematic violent nine-year-old girl who endangers herself and those around her.
