In his only year on the varsity at Ossining, he averaged 20.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, three assists, and three steals, guiding the squad to its first conference title in ten years.

Toppin picked and finally enrolled in Mt. Zion Preparatory School in Baltimore, Maryland, as a proficient player with no NCAA Division I offers.

He finished his senior year of high school there.

Toppin has a career scoring average of 17 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, and his height ranges from four inches to 2.06 meters, or 6 feet 9 inches.

He chose the Collegiate of Dayton as his collegiate basketball destination over Rhode Island, Georgetown, Georgia, Texas A&M, Minnesota, and Texas Tech.
