In 1977’s Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, director George Lucas requested that Orson provide the voice of Darth Vader.

Welles declined the offer because he thought the man’s voice was too recognizable.

On October 10, 1985, he appeared on The Merv Griffin Show and passed away two hours later.

According to reports, he suffered a heart attack as he typed away at the typewriter sitting on his lap.

John Huston, a fellow filmmaker, and he remained lifelong friends. Unrelated to one other, both of them made their debuts as directors in 1941: Welles with Citizen Kane and Huston with The Maltese Falcon.

Additionally, the two men had the chance to work together as directors because Huston starred in Welles’ unfinished 2018 film The Other Side of the Wind and Orson appeared in a cameo in Huston’s 1956 film Moby Dick.
