Professional Career of Oscar De La Hoya

In 2008, De La Hoya’s final bout was a loss against rising star Manny Pacquiao, which signaled the end of his ring career.

On April 14, 2009, he declared his retirement, putting an end to talks of a fight with undefeated light middleweight Julio César Chávez Jr.

Outside of the ring, though, as President of Golden Boy Promotions, he had already established himself as Oscar De La Hoya the promoter.

De La Hoya’s excellent looks and personality were mainly used as a springboard for his other business ventures, which included a Spanish-language boxing show on HBO called Boxeo de Oro, a clothing line, and several merchandising arrangements.

He is, nonetheless, still remembered as one of the most famous boxers of his period.
