The American Athletic Conference also named him ‘Offensive Player of the Week,’ and he was a finalist for the Manning Award for his outstanding performance in 7 of 12 games.

In his sophomore year during the 2014 season, he lost his consistency in performance, but he still managed to record a career-high 29 completions and 49 pass attempts in the season’s first seven games, earning him three honorable mentions.

In the following season, he improved. Against UCF in the eighth week of the season, he threw for and received a pass in both two-point conversion attempts.

The Road to the NFL

Later that month, in October of 2019, the newly established XFL drafted him for the 2020 season. He was already permitted to play for the Houston Roughnecks prior to the 2020 XFL draft.

His first-game effort earned him the league’s first-ever ‘Star of the Week’ award. Because of the ongoing covid-19 outbreak, the rest of the season was canceled. He finished the 2020 season 5-0, with 1338 passing yards, 15 passing touchdowns, and four interceptions.

In addition, he topped the league in both passing yards and passing touchdowns. Walker signed a two-year contract with the Carolina Panthers on March 25, 2020, bringing him back to his college head coach Matt Rhule.
