Perri Pebbles Reid: Professional Career

Perri Pebbles Reid was offered a production deal with a local musician when she was sixteen, but the deal was canceled when it was discovered that she was pregnant.

In 1981, she joined the funk band Con Funk Shun, which was led by percussionist Bill Summers, as a backing vocalist, contributing to the band’s single “Body Lovers.”

After meeting George L. Smith, she created a demo tape, which resulted in the creation of the video “Mercedes Boy” and her signing with MCA.

Throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, she charted several singles as a solo artist, including “Giving You the Benefit”, “Girlfriend”, and “Love Makes Things Happen”.

In 1989, she founded Pebbitone Productions and her own record label, Savvy Records.

This eventually resulted in the establishment of TLC, which Pebbitone oversaw.

The girl group – originally comprised of “T-Boz,” “Left Eye,” and “Chilli” – was formed in 1991 and enjoyed considerable success throughout the early 1990s and early 2000s.

This significantly increased Reid’s net worth.

Several of the group’s chart-topping singles include “Waterfalls,” “No Scrubs,” “Unpretty,” and “Creep,” and they have four multi-platinum albums to their credit, one of which is “CrazySexyCool,” the only female group’s album to receive diamond certification.

Additionally, they earned a Million certification for their album “FanMail.”

The group would eventually sell 65 million records worldwide and garner numerous accolades, including five Grammy Awards.

Despite this, the band declared bankruptcy in 1995, allegedly due to Perri’s mismanagement. Numerous complications resulted from the conflict.

Reid converted to Christianity in 1997, changed her name to “Sister Perri,” and founded the Women of God Changing Lives Ministries (WOGCL).

There, she is an ordained minister who preaches in addition to performing gospel music.

After 13 years, she released her fourth and first gospel album, “Prophetic Flows Vol 1 & 2,” in 2008.

The album peaked at number 12 on the Billboard Gospel Album Chart.

Three years later, she was named executive producer and host of Essence’s national R&B search.

Regarding her personal life, Perri has been married five times; her first marriage, to an unidentified father of her first child, lasted only a year.

She later married George L. Smith in 1985, and after that relationship ended, she married L.A. Reid in 1989 but divorced him in 1996 due to the TLC feud.

She married retired Major League Baseball player Otis Nixon in 2000 but divorced in 2004.

In 2010, she married Excel Sharieff. She is believed to be the mother of a son and a daughter.
