Phlash Phelps is a radio personality and DJ from the United States. Phlash Phelps is currently employed as a broadcaster for Sirius-XM Radio in Washington, D.C.

On the 6 channel, Phlash hosts the weekday morning drive time on the ’60s, which plays music hits from the 1960s.

Phlash used to listen to Casey Kasem’s American Top 40 countdown show when he was younger.

It caused him to become very knowledgeable about current hits. Phlash won a tour of Baltimore’s WBSB studios after winning a station contest (B-104).

He realized at the age of 15 that he wanted to be a radio personality as a career. Johnny Walker of WFBR (AMA) Baltimore was a major influence on Phlash.

Johnny Walker, with his sound effects and personality-driven style, was instrumental in Phlash’s career choice. Some of the jocks on B-104 were also his role models.

Furthermore, Phlash listened to Rick Dees’ Weekly Top 40 countdown show, which included a lot of sound effects and humor.

The fast-talking Terry “Motormouth” Young on WCAU (98.1) in Philadelphia during its early-to-mid-1980s Hot Hits phase show was a final influence.

Phlash Phelps- Professional Career

Phelps created a show that reflected his desire to capture Rick Dees’ craziness as well as Terry “Motormouth” Young’s speed.

His club was known as the Phelps Phunny Pharm Phan Clan, as the name Phunny Pharm suggests. Years later, his listeners would call in and tell him what room number they were in.

When Phlash refers to the professional American football league, he refers to the “NPHL,” not the “NFL”; the 27th state to join the union is “Phlorida,” not “Florida,” and so on.

His fast-talking is exemplified by his ability to recite the letters of the alphabet backward very quickly.

In 2000, Phlash returned to Fort Wayne, but this time he worked mornings for WCKZ (Rhythmic/102.3), before leaving in September of that year for the East Coast and satellite radio.

XM Satellite Radio’s The ’60s on 6 Channel broadcasts from Washington, D.C. Phlash was the most visible host as well as the music director.

He was hired on August 21, 2000, but did not begin working as a full-time presenter of the service until September 21, 2001. His ability to imitate the madcap 1960s deejays style drew him in with his listers.

According to the XM channel executive, they hired him because he was their type of nut. They had a show called “Power to the People” under Phlash’s direction where listeners could choose which songs would be played.

Phlash approached the program director at WQSR (Q105) with his knowledge of current music and was given a chance there when he was 17 and still in high school.

He also completed an internship at B-104. Phlash also attempted to advance his career by working as an on-air talent in secondary and tertiary markets.

For example, after leaving WDJB (B-106 FM) in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he had worked for five years, he went to work as a morning drive personality for WSSX (95SX) in Charleston, South Carolina.

Phlash is well-known for his occasional trips across the United States. At the age of 23, he had visited 49 states, with Alaska becoming his 50th at the age of 29.

Throughout his career, Phlash traveled to various radio markets across the country to tape the broadcasts of various personalities.

Sirius Radio is a radio broadcasting company headquartered in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. It provides satellite radio and online radio services in the United States.

Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio merged in 2008 to form the company. During the 2008 merger of XM and Sirius Satellite Radio, the ’60s on 6 was XM’s fifth most popular channel.

When the stations merged, Phlash was one of the few DJs who arrived with his timeslot intact. Phlash was one of only three remaining on-air personalities when XM launched in August 2001.

In 2010, Phlash’s show aired Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Phlash’s radio work has occasionally provided him with additional opportunities.

For example, in 2008, Phlash was named the Dow Louisiana Federal Credit Union’s voice.
