The group, however, disbanded, and Roger went on to join General Public alongside Wakeling and Mickey Billingham.

Roger also performed as a solo artist, releasing his debut album, Radical Departure, in 1988, and subsequent albums such as Inside My Head, Pop Off the Headtop, and others.

Roger reunited The Beat with Everett Morton and his son, Ranking Junior, later in 2005.
