Horvitz realized his inner performer when he was just five years old.
His early inspirations included Flip Wilson, Tom Jones, and Don Adams from Get Smart, whom he would imitate for several hours a day.
At the age of ten, he began his career in commercials, which led to more commercial appearances and other hand modeling assignments.
He had his first proper role at the age of 13 in the off-Broadway production of Oliver! at the Aquarius Theater in Los Angeles.
In 2001, he tried his hand at sketch comedy with his buddy and fellow comedian Fred Willard and his sketch comedy troupe The MOHOS.
Richard has taught voice acting and theatre at California State University, Northridge.
