Ronnie DeVoe was a proud member of New Edition, one of the it-boy bands of the 1980s. He joined as the band’s penultimate member. According to legend, New Edition signed a record deal with Maurice Starr’s Streetwise record label in 1981 after finishing second in a talent competition.

With four albums released back-to-back, New Edition dominated the 1980s and had everyone crooning to their sound. They were without a doubt the best-selling R&B/Hip-hop boy bands of their era.

Ronnie DeVoe: Twin Brothers

For a long time, all that was known about the members of New Edition was mostly about their musical exploits.

However, since the release of their three-part miniseries biopic, The New Edition Story, on BET in late January 2017, many facts about the band members have come to light, one of which is about a certain twin brother.

Nope! On November 17, 1967, in Boston, Massachusetts, Ronnie was born alone, not as a twin. However, following the biopic, which featured a scene in which Ronnie’s brother (Roland Devoe) laughed at him while he tried to get his moves right for a New Edition audition, many people discovered that Roland is actually a twin with Ronnie’s other brother Robert DeVoe.

It’s been a fact for a long time, but the world never really paid attention until that scene in the biopic. Oh, the power of film.

Ronnie DeVoe took to Twitter in 2012, specifically on May 9th, to wish his twin brothers a happy birthday. “Happy Birthday 2 my Brothers “Robert Anthony DeVoe” & “Roland Antone DeVoe!” he simply wrote. Nobody on the planet has my back quite like the #TWINS #DEVOEMOB.”

To demonstrate how unpopular that tweet was at the time, it received only 14 retweets and 7 likes. Anyway, Ronnie has been posting photos of his twin brothers more frequently in recent years.

Another fact that makes the truth seem unbelievable is that Ronnie appears younger than his younger twin brothers, as seen in a recent photo he posted, but you know, Ronnie DeVoe is just one of them.

Ronnie DeVoe: Relationship Status

Ronnie’s family is close-knit, as evidenced by the way he bonds with his twin brothers, and they certainly have each other’s backs, in Ronnie’s words. In fact, it was his uncle, Brooke Payne (his mother’s brother), who was the New Edition’s choreographer/manager who convinced him to join the boy band as its penultimate member.

Ronnie’s mother, Flo DeVoe, was also supportive of her son’s musical endeavors. Her birthday is September 27th, 1949. La La Anthony played her in the New Edition biopic. Ronald Boyd DeVoe Sr, Ronnie’s father, was born in 1947.

Ronnie’s family also includes two sisters, Regina and Tonya, in addition to the twin brothers.

Since 2006, Ronnie has been married to R&B singer Shamari Fears. Fears are best known as the lead singer of the girl band Blaque, which peaked to fame in the 1990s.

The band was best known for their international hit “Bring It All to Me,” which appeared on their self-titled debut album.

The group went silent for a while before planning a reunion in 2012, which was sadly thwarted by the tragic death of one of her members, Reed, who died on October 26, 2012, after being hit by a car in Atlanta.

Twins run in the DeVoe family, so the couple’s announcement in February 2017 that they were expecting twins came as no surprise. They welcomed twin boys in November 2017, who already have their own Instagram page.
