Roy Demeo career

DeMeo became a silent partner in a peep show/prostitution establishment in Bricktown, New Jersey, in the latter half of 1975, after the owner of the business was unable to pay his loansharking debts.

When Gaggi discovered DeMeo’s involvement in such taboo films, he threatened DeMeo with death.

DeMeo, on the other hand, defied Gaggi and continued the practice.

Gaggi did not retaliate, and according to his nephew, Dominick Montiglio, the subject was never brought up again as long as DeMeo continued to pay Gaggi.

Despite the Gambino family’s strict prohibition on drug dealing, DeMeo financed a large operation importing Colombian marijuana, which was unloaded from an offshore freighter and sold out of various auto shops in Canarsie, and he also sold cocaine out of the Gemini Lounge.

DeMeo was the subject of Internal Revenue Service (IRS) investigations into his income as 1975 came to a close.

The Boro of Brooklyn Credit Union had been forced into insolvency months earlier as a result of DeMeo and his colleagues’ plundering of its funds. As a result, DeMeo resigned from the Credit Union.

Before an indictment could be issued, he used false affidavits from businesses owned by friends and acquaintances, claiming he was an employee on their payrolls.

These affidavits allowed him to account for some of his income and reach a settlement with the IRS.

DeMeo’s sources of income, as well as his crew, grew. By July 1976, DeMeo had added an automobile company called Team Auto Wholesalers to his list of loanshark clients.

Matthew Rega, the owner of Team Auto, also purchased stolen vehicles from the crew and sold them at a car lot he owned in New Jersey.

He was also involved in the hijacking of delivery trucks from John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Danny Grillo, a recently released prisoner, was now a member of his crew.

When Carlo Gambino died of natural causes in the fall of 1976, the Gambino family underwent a massive transformation.

Aniello Dellacroce was named underboss, while Paul Castellano was named boss.

The implications for DeMeo were twofold. Gaggi was promoted to caporegime, taking over the crew of men previously led by Castellano.

This advancement benefited DeMeo, whose mentor was now even closer to the family’s leadership.

Another benefit of Gambino’s death was that new associates would be eligible for membership in the family.

Castellano did not immediately “open the books” for new members, instead of promoting existing members and reshuffling the crews’ leaders.

He was also said to be opposed to the creation of DeMeo.

Castellano was involved in white-collar crime and looked down on lower-level members like DeMeo. Furthermore, Castellano believed DeMeo was uncontrollable.

Gaggi’s attempts to persuade Castellano to create DeMeo were repeatedly rejected.

By 1977, DeMeo had become dissatisfied with the situation and began looking for opportunities that would provide higher returns for his superiors.

He is rumored to have killed between 20 and 200 people while working for the Gambino family.

Roy Demeo’s marital status

He was married to Gladys Rosamond Brittain and has three children.
