Steve Shives is an atheist YouTuber and vlogger best known for his Atheist Reads and Five Stupid Things (now Five Things) videos. Steve uses his English major skills to “analyze critically” Christian apologists in the Atheist Reads series. Other subjects covered in his films include conspiracy theories, movie reviews, current affairs, atheism, wrestling, and comic books.

He was a successful atheist YouTuber until he chose to explore feminism, believing that it should be welcomed and generally accepted by the atheist community. This philosophy and stance not only drew harsh condemnation from anti-feminists in the atheist YouTube community, but it also decreased his follower base by a certain proportion.

Interestingly, the YouTuber doesn’t care if he loses all of his followers since he is also fast to block as many people as possible in order to reduce the ridiculous amount of abuse he gets on his feeds on a daily basis.

Steve Shives: Life Story

Although Steve Shives is outspoken and loud when addressing different topics, he is really extremely discreet when it comes to his personal life, thus virtually nothing about his life is available online.

Steve Shives: Popularity

Shives rose to prominence online thanks to the videos he posts on his YouTube account. He joined the YouTube community in December 2010 as Steve Shives and started posting videos in which he explores conspiracy theories, pseudoscience, and atheism. He also covers current affairs, wrestling, and performs movie and comic book reviews in his videos.

He conducted a series called “Riffing on Mail Call” in March 2010. On the show, he usually replies to reader comments in the “Mail Call” section of the Hagerstown Herald-Mail daily.

Steve started a series titled “And Now the Good News” in September 2012. In this series, he covers current events that are both excellent and entertaining to listen to, covering topics such as politics, science, and problems such as gay marriage.

He quickly launched the “An Athiest Reads” series, in which he uses his English major knowledge to “critically examine” Christian apologists. He does this by reading religious literature (primarily by Christian apologists), and while doing so, he clarifies, expands, and provides his viewpoint on what he has just read from an atheist perspective.

The videos in this series range in length from 20 to 30 minutes and are posted chapter by chapter.

Steve Shives’ online fame grew as a result of this series, particularly within the atheist YouTube community.

Another popular series on Steve’s YouTube channel was “Five Stupid Things” (Now Five Things). In this series, he addresses problems that have troubled him regarding religion, conspiracy theories, and comic books by selecting five things that he considers very dumb about any of the themes he is discussing.

He also discusses current events in his “Five Stupid Things” series. In the episodes headed “Five Ridiculous Things for (date),” Steve discusses five items in the news that he considers to be stupid. He posts these episodes every two weeks.

Steve had a lot of followers who liked what he did and many followed him; even the Huffington Post featured him many times for his unusual views and ideas on topics, but he quickly came under fire when he started feminist vlogging.

He believes that feminism should be more generally embraced in the atheist community; nevertheless, this stance has not gone over well with many, particularly anti-feminists in the atheist community, of which he is a member.

Steve Shives: Single or Married?

Ashley Hutson is the name of his wife. Ashley’s personal life, like her husband’s, is shrouded in mystery, except for the fact that she is married to Steve Shives and is an outspoken feminist.

In fact, many people think Steve became a feminist in order to satisfy her since she has a lot of power over him. Some believe that Shives is constantly cautious not to upset Mom in order to avoid being confined in the basement as punishment.

Their pair-bonding sessions mostly consist of Steve getting on his knees to massage her bunions or talking about how gender is represented in films and on television.

She despises superhero movies, action movies, and anything else that does not adhere to Anita Sarkeesian’s revised Bechdel Test criteria.
