Quick Facts of Steve Sisolak

  • Steve, a Las Vegas Boulevard South property owner, got a total of $23.5 million in 2005 after the airport refused to compensate him for height limits placed on a plot he owned.
  • Officials at McCarran cautioned that compensating property owners who lost land value as a result of the height limitations might cost more than $1 billion, increasing the cost of air travel to and from Las Vegas.
  • Nonetheless, the Nevada Supreme Court held that landowners may seek compensation if aircraft flying below 500 feet interfere with their ability to erect high-rise structures.
  • Sisolak claimed that his property, which he purchased before Clark County implemented height limitations, had been devalued and that he was entitled to compensation.
