Sugar Ray: Professional Career

Only three years later, he competed for the featherweight division at the National AAU Tournament but lost in the quarterfinals.

By the end of his amateur career, the man who would become a legendary boxer had a record of 145 wins and only 5 losses.

Sugar Ray Leonard fought professionally until 1988 when he announced his retirement. Despite this, he would return to the ring to fight until 1997.

He had only a draw, a loss, and 36 wins prior to his last two fights, both of which he lost.

During his career, he defeated Floyd Mayweather Sr., Wilfred Bentez, Dave Boy Green, and Thomas Hearns.

He only lost to Héctor Camacho and Terry Norris, both of whom he later defeated.

35 of his victories were by knockout, 11 by decision, and 1 by draw. In the same vein, he was defeated only once by knockout and twice by decision.

Leonard won the NABF welterweight title as well as the WBC, The Ring, and lineal welterweight titles during his career, which he would reclaim after losing to Roberto Durán.

He also won the WBC super-middleweight and WBO super middleweight titles, as well as two Men’s amateur boxing titles at the 1975 Pan American Games and the 1976 Olympics.

Sugar Ray: Relationship Status

Sugar comes from a large family, as evidenced by the fact that he is the fifth child out of six siblings.

Roger Leonard, a professional boxer, is one of his siblings, as are Bunny Leonard, Sandy Leonard, and Sharon Leonard.

Looking at his relationships, the boxer has had his fair share of them, despite not being one of those who can be said to have dated many women in the past.

Juanita Wilkinson, with whom he had been dating since they were in high school, was the first woman he married.

His relationship with Juanita Wilkinson, like many others, had its ups and downs, but they persevered until they married when they were both 23 in 1980.

They had a son when they were only 16 years old before that.

By 1990, the couple had been separated for two years and were finalizing a divorce in which the boxer was accused of assault and adultery.

When the divorce was finalized, their second son, Jerrel, was seven years old, and their first son, Ray Jr., was seventeen.

Sugar Ray’s next wife was Bernadette Robi, whom he married in 1993.

Bernadette was a Sports Illustrated model before meeting and marrying the legendary boxer after meeting at a Luther Vandross concert and being introduced by Kenny G. They’ve stayed in touch ever since.

Sugar Ray Leonard has a daughter, Camille Leonard, and a son, Daniel Ray Leonard, in addition to his two sons with Juanita Wilkinson.

He has a very athletic build, despite the fact that he is not the tallest or the biggest man in many rings.

Nonetheless, boxing isn’t always a battle of the biggest and tallest.

In terms of stats, he is 5 ft 10 in (178 cm) tall and weighs 137 lbs (62 kg).
