Weymouth joined Nancy Tufts’ amateur musical ensemble, “The Potomac English Hand Bell Ringers,” when she was twelve years old.
Tina began to take an interest in singing and picked up the guitar on her own after multiple trips on the road with the band.
At the Rhode Island School of Design, she met Chris Frantz and David Byrne, two people who would forever change the course of her life.
Tina accepted Chris’s request to join the band “Talking Heads” after the three of them formed it.
They relocated to New York City and rented an apartment to accommodate rehearsals.
Tina quickly became a good bassist, and Byrne began writing some of their later-famous songs.
Its band, “Talking Heads,” had their stage debut with “The Ramones” in New York’s famed CBGB nightclub in 1975, performing two of Byrne’s well-known compositions, “Psycho Killer” and “Warning Sign,” as well as a few more renditions of great songs.
Their debut was a success, and the band quickly garnered fame among the audience.
The next year, “Talking Heads” added guitarist Jerry Harrison to the lineup in an effort to expand the group’s punk rock appeal.
The punk rock label Sire Record quickly offered them a contract offer, which they immediately accepted. When the band’s debut album, “Talking Heads: 77,” was released in 1977, it was somewhat successful commercially.
Two more albums, “Fear of Music” and “Remain in Light,” were released in 1979 and 1980, respectively.
