Lutke went to work for a Siemens subsidiary right after graduation. Lutke admired Jurgen Starr, his boss. In 2004, Tobias, Scott Lake, and Daniel Weinand established an online snowboard store. They were, however, dissatisfied with the available software solutions at the time.
He decided to start his own e-commerce business. Lutke, a software developer, built Shopify, a web-based business platform. For the first time in 2006, the platform went live.
