It is thought that he was given the name Lennox by the doctor who assisted with his birth.

Lennox Lewis spent the majority of his childhood in England. When he was 12, his family relocated to Canada, specifically to Ontario.

While in Canada, he attended Cameron Heights Collegiate Institute for high school. He was a member of the school’s football, soccer, and basketball teams, excelling in all three.

Lennox Lewis:  Professional Career

Lennox Lewis decided to become a boxer in 1983, and he began with amateur boxing. In the same year, he won his first gold medal in boxing at the junior world championship.

The following year (1984), he represented Canada at the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. However, he was defeated in the quarter-finals by Tyrell Biggs.

Lennox stayed in amateur boxing for four years, hoping to win a gold medal at the 1988 Olympics. He won his next gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in 1986.

During the Summer Olympics in Seoul in 1988, he won another gold medal, completing the goal that had caused him to postpone his professional career.

His amateur boxing career ended with 82 matches, 75 of which he won by knockout, and 7 of which he lost.

Lewis returned to England after his Olympic victory to pursue a career as a professional boxer. His professional boxing career began with a string of victories, and he went on to win the European heavyweight title in 1990 after defeating France’s Jean Maurice Chanet.

In 1991, he defeated Gary Mason, who was undefeated at the time. The following year (1992), he defeated Derek Williams and took both men’s titles.

The most memorable victory of his career came on October 31, 1992, in a WBC fight against Canadian heavyweight Donovan ‘Razor’ Ruddock, which lasted only two rounds.

This fight established him as one of the best heavyweights in the world; he lost the title to Oliver McCall two years later.

However, Lennox Lewis was given the opportunity to reclaim his title in 1997 in a match that has gone down in boxing history as one of the strangest fights. After the third round, McCall refused to fight, granting Lewis the title by default.

Lewis defeated and once again proved himself to be a great boxer on June 8, 2002. The match was the highest-grossing event in the history of pay-per-view at the time.

Lewis Lennox retired from boxing in 2004 after a career that spanned 44 fights. He won 41 of these fights, including 32 knockouts. The man only lost two fights, one of which was a draw. Between 2006 and 2010, he worked as a boxing analyst for HBO while retired.

He is regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time, breaking and setting records that no other boxer has ever broken.
