Cat Zingano: Birth, Parents, Siblings & Education

She is an American MMA fighter who was born on July 1, 1982, in Winona, Minnesota, the youngest of three children to Jon and Barbara Albert.

Cat Zingano, like the proverbial cat whose back never touches the ground, rarely succumbs to defeat.

Cat Zingano: Professional Career

Her career in combat sports began with wrestling when she was 12 years old, and she eventually joined the wrestling team at Fairview High School in Boulder, Colorado, where she was the only girl on the team.

Following her high school career, Cat joined both the University of the Cumberlands (2001) and MacMurray College women’s wrestling teams, motivated by her love of the sport.

She would go on to become a four-time All-American and National Champion after excelling on both teams.

Cat Zingano learned Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) before her first amateur fight in October 2007, which led to competition doors opening for her and launching her on her way to massive victories.

Among the tournaments, she won in her early career were the World Championships (Mundials) in Los Angeles, the Rio de Janeiro State Championships in Brazil, and several Colorado State titles.

She would take her winning streak into a professional career while still being adept at her act and consistently improving.

She had her first MMA fight on June 13, 2008, and she went on to win three championships in her first four pro fights.

In April 2013, she competed in her first women’s UFC fight, defeating Meisha Tate in the third round in about dubbed Fight of the Night.

She became the first woman in UFC history to win a fight via technical knockout (TKO).

Cat Zingano had knee surgery in October 2013 and returned to the ring against Amanda Nunes in September 2014, after being out for a year and a half.

She never gets tired of her job because she understands that it is an art that she will never be able to perfect on its own.

Even after a loss, she looks for ways to improve and advance, and as a result, she is constantly learning. On July 14, 2018, she will face Marion Reneau at UFC Fight Night 133.

Cat Zingano: Relationship Status

In 2010, Cat Zingano married her longtime boyfriend, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Mauricio Zingano.

Before she met Mauricio, she had a son named Brayden, whom he adopted after they married.

Mauricio was the owner of Zingano BJJ, a training facility in Colorado with two gyms, and had also fought professionally before shifting his focus to teaching and training other fighters.

His wife, Cat, was one of his students, and under his tutelage, she won eight consecutive MMA fights, establishing herself as the UFC’s No. 1 contender after knocking out Miesha Tate in April 2013.

She was also the first mother to compete in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Success does not automatically confer immunity to challenges, and losing a life usually involves dealing with people. Cat Zingano, the fearless, tough fighter who went through a difficult period in her life in early 2014, is no exception.

Her husband committed suicide on January 13, 2014, at the age of 37, shortly after she suffered an injured knee as a result of her ring victories and dominance in the women’s fight arena. Even though she is tough in the arena, the experience was painful for her to go through.

Many reasons surfaced for why Mauricio died by his own hands, as is usually the case in such cases, especially when there is nothing left to explain why one had to take one’s own life.

Nothing was said about the specific reason he hung himself; however, speculations abound, ranging from the couple’s struggle to keep their marriage together to cheating scandals and substance abuse.

Whatever the reason, having a loved one succumb to life’s pressures can leave one distraught and in great grief.

Cat has since risen above the pain, overcoming not only her husband’s death but also a severe knee injury to return to what she knows best: fighting her way back to life.
