Dr. Elizabeth Grammer: Professional Career

Despite the fact that the National Geographic Wild show has its fair share of controversy and legal challenges, the case of Dr. Elizabeth Grammer is the most frightening and serious that has occurred.

On December 25, 2016, the police received a phone call from Elizabeth and her husband, Robert Grammer. According to one source, Dr. Elizabeth’s husband was drinking extensively on the terrible day.

When he returned home late in the evening, he asked his wife for some medications, and Dr. Elizabeth decided to give him half a milliliter of butorphanol – also known as Stadol, it is a medicine that is classified as an opioid analgesic similar to morphine and is sometimes given to pregnant women or in cases of severe migraine, but it is also used for pain relief in large groups. Robert Grammer then injected the drug by himself and became comatose shortly afterwards.

Later, he was rushed to Monroe County Hospital, but doctors quickly realized that they might not be able to provide him with the necessary care, so he was transferred to Macon Center and placed on life support.

Police arrived to the Grammers’ home several days later, only to find Dr. Elizabeth lifeless and lying on the couch. Dr. Elizabeth had an IV in her arm and had attempted to kill, according to Deputy Cynthia Patten.

Elizabeth was immediately rushed to the hospital, where physicians were able to preserve much of her life, and subsequently to a psychiatric unit in Macon.

Dr. Elizabeth Grammer: Husband’s Demise

Unfortunately, on the 30th of December, Robert Grammer was placed on life support and died on the same day. Since then, the inquiry into Robert’s death, Elizabeth’s suicide attempt, and medication misuse has been ongoing.

Dr. Grammer has since told authorities that she had no idea her husband planned to use the prescription on himself, and that giving him the drug was wrong.

Since then, Dr. Elizabeth Grammer has, predictably, opted to leave the show and step away from the spotlight.
