Tamara began her career as a radio host when she was in her late teens. She then worked as a reporter for The California Report and WOSU public media for a few years before joining KPCC as the Sacramento Bureau Reporter.

Tamara worked there for a while before moving on to KQED public radio as the Sacramento Region Reporter in 2006.
