Swizz Beatz was born Kasseem Dean in September 1978 in The Bronx, New York. After being exposed to hip hop in the Bronx as a teen, he began DJing. Beatz struggled in school and moved to Atlanta, GA, where he worked for his uncles, the CEOs of Ruff Ryders music company.

He began producing music when he was 16 years old. The first beat he sold was DMX’s “Ruff Ryders Anthem.” By the age of 19, he had already produced famous tracks for Jay-Z and Noreaga.

He also produced Eve’s first album and many of the music on the Ryde or Die Volume 1 compilation. In 2001, he co-founded the Full Surface record label with Clive Davis.

He signed Cassidy as the label’s first performer. Swizz Beats produced Bone Thugs-n-album Harmony’s Strength & Loyalty after signing them.

He Presents G.H.E.T.T.O. Stories was released in 2002, and One Man Band Man was released in 2007. About.com named him the #27 Greatest Hip-Hop Producer, and The Source named him one of the top 20 producers. Kanye West has even referred to Beatz as “the greatest rap producer of all time.

” Swizz Beatz is married to R&B artist Alicia Keys, with whom he has one child. He appeared on Drake’s “Fancy” with T.I., which peaked at number one on the US Rap chart. He received a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group in 2011 for “On to the Next One” (with Jay Z).

He’s also been nominated for Grammys for “Fancy” (with Drake and T.I.) and “Famous” and “Ultralight Beam” as a songwriter. Swizz Beats was named Producer of the Year at the 2010 BET Hip Hop Awards.
