At The Ultimate Fighter 4 Finale, he was defeated by Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter Travis Lutter by first-round submission in a non-exhibition encounter. As a result of this loss, Côté’s official UFC record is officially 0–4.

He defeated TUF3 winner Kendall Grove in the opening round of UFC 74 in August 2007. Côté then faced Drew McFedries at UFC Fight Night, where he won by TKO in the first round after catching McFedries with a counter strike.

Silva dominated the first two rounds, but Côté showed his tenacity by taking a roundhouse kick and a flying knee right on the button without being rocked in the first round.

In the third round, Côté’s movement within the octagon put too much pressure on the rear of his right leg, leading him to collapse to the mat gripping his right knee in anguish.

Referee Herb Dean stopped the bout after Côté was unable to continue, and Silva was awarded the winner by TKO. In contrast, Côté became Silva’s first UFC opponent to make it past the second round.

While on medical leave for his surgically repaired knee, Patrick told MMA Mania on January 25, 2009, that if he gets a rematch with Anderson Silva, he is convinced he will win.

He also claimed in a July 2009 interview with Rogers Sportsnet’s MMA Connected television program that he would like to face Michael Bisping if he lost to Dan Henderson.

After the loss, Cote claimed he was improperly spiked onto the mat, but the referee decided that he had landed on his face, not his head.
