In 2003, she was named as the vice president’s chief deputy national security advisor, and in 2000, she was also designated as the US Deputy Permanent Representative to NATO. In 2008, she focused her efforts on bolstering partner support for the ISAF mission in Afghanistan as well as NATO-Russia relations. She went on to work as a Special Envoy for Conventional Armed Forces in Europe and as a professor at the National War College in the years after that.
