In 1998 – Began working for her father’s anti-gay political action committee.

After the September 11th attacks, I joined the non-profit organization Stand Up For America. 

She worked as a martial arts instructor the next year.

 In 2003- Began serving in the Hawaii State Legislature as a member of the Hawaii Army National Guard. 

She also volunteered for the Army National Guard.

In 2007- Appointed as a Second Lieutenant in the 29th Brigade Special Troops Battalion. 

She was promoted to Captain eight years later.

As of June 2020, she is the Captain of the US Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command.

After defecting Republican Alfonso Jimenez, he became Hawaii’s youngest legislator in 2002.

In 2009, she ran for the Honolulu City Council. She defeated Sensnita Moepono with 16% of the vote.

In 2012, she defeated Republican Kawika Crowley in the main election for US Representative.

In 2014: Re-elected to the United States House of Representatives for the second time, defeating Crowley. 

She is currently the US Representative for Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District.

In February 2019, she began her 2020 presidential candidacy, becoming the first female war veteran to do so. 

She later dropped her presidential campaign in support of Joe Biden.

Gabbard dropped out of the presidential contest in March 2020 to support Joe Biden, and Kai Kahele assumed her position in the House of Representatives on January 3, 2021.
