Haseeb Hameed- Professional Career
Hameed made his first-class debut for Lancashire.
After setting records in his whole maiden season of Championship cricket in 2016, Hameed was arguably dubbed one of the country’s best young batsmen.
He surpassed Michael Atherton, the fifth-youngest Lancashire batsman to achieve 1000 runs in a season and the first to strike a century in each innings in the Roses match, to become the county’s youngest batsman to do so.
The right-hander was selected for England’s Test tours of Bangladesh but did not play on those visits.
The Bolton-born cricketer made an early impact in his debut test, scoring a half-century against India in Rajkot.
He appeared in great form, scoring 82, but his unbeaten 59 in Mohali was even better despite battling a damaged finger.
But it was his unbeaten 59 in England’s second innings in Mohali, where he batted for 156 balls and nearly three hours with a fractured finger, that cemented his position as one of the most exciting young batting possibilities in Test cricket.
With Alastair Cook, England appeared to have discovered a long-term test opener.
