Kuiper’s broadcasting career began while he was still in high school. Duane was a player who hosted his own radio show on KNBR from 1982 to 1985.

Following his retirement from baseball, Duane provided commentary for the Giants from 1986 to 1992.

With the Giants uncertain about moving to Florida for the 1993 season, Duane left for a year with the expansion Colorado Rockies. He returned to broadcast for the Giants in 1994, where he has worked ever since.

Duane is primarily a television play-by-play announcer for NBC Sports Bay Area, but he also shares radio play-by-play duties with Dave Flemming on KNBR when the Giants’ television broadcast is carried over the air on KNTV, and Jon Miller handles television play-by-play.

Duane also fills in on the radio side when Flemming is unavailable due to his second job as an ESPN college football and basketball announcer.

During the Giants’ postseason play, he and broadcast colleague Mike Krukow switched to radio and called games with Miller and Flemming, while network sportscasters handled the television broadcasts.

In his first season in San Francisco, he batted behind Hall of Famer Joe Morgan.255 hits in three-plus seasons platooning at second base for the Giants before being released on June 28, 1985.

Duane and his future broadcast partner Mike Krukow were teammates on the Giants from 1983 to 1985, where they formed a friendship.
