When James was in his mid-teens, he formed The Age of Contest.
He joined forces with Jay Burt-Smale and, a few years later, created another band called Mr. Pangs Bang Bang, named after his landlord.
During his student years, he met Graham Coxon and formed the Nichtkunst band.
Later, he met Coxon’s bandmates, Dave Rowntree and Damon Albarn, and later joined in 1989, but the band lost two other members, Eddie Deedigan and Dave Brolan.
After that, the band changed its name to Seymour.
The name was then changed to Blur, and James functioned as the band’s bassist.
The band then published songs like ‘Leisure,’ ‘Modern Life is Rubbish,’ and so on.
He departed the band in 2002 and, unlike his comrades, has not sought a solo career afterward.
