Russian architect whose Constructivist designs included the Lenin Mausoleum in Moscow’s Red Square. Historians credited him with bridging two eras: Imperial Russia’s Revivalist architecture and Stalin’s Empire Style. Alexey Shchusev was born on October 8, 1873 in Russia. He and Le Corbusier both influenced the architecture of their respective countries. He was a student at the Imperial Academy of Arts from 1891 until 1897, during which time he was a student of the famed Leon Benois and Ilya Repin.
