Their particular musical style prompted them to sign with Atlantic Records. 

Their first album with all four sisters earned gold, owing to the success of the hits Yes We Can Can and Wang Dang Doodle.

When their song ‘Fairytale’ became a hit on the country music charts in 1974, the sisters became the first black female group to appear at the Grand Ole Opry. 

It also earned them a Grammy Award for Best Country Duo or Group Performance.

In 1983, their album Break Out went multi-platinum and earned them two more Grammy Awards. 

Pointer then went solo, releasing her first solo album titled ‘Love for What It Is’ in 1987.

In 1994, the Pointer sisters were honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and Anita was inducted into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame in 1998. 

Due to her ailing health, she announced her retirement in 2015.
