Poet and mathematician who published the first poetry collection in the Luxembourgish language. The work, entitled E’Schrek ob de Lezeburger Parnassus, appeared in 1829 and was followed three years later by another poetry collection. Antoine Meyer was born on May 31, 1801 in Luxembourg. He, like French author Jean de la Fontaine, wrote fables; however, Meyer’s fables personified objects rather than animals. He taught mathematics in Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Belgium.
