While in junior high, one of her friends suggested she compete for the talent agency SM Entertainment, and she went on to win the SM Entertainment Teen Model Contest in 2003.
Go Ara starred as Yoo Da-mi in the 2006 television series Snow Flower, for which she received the SBS Drama Award for “New Star Award” in 2006 and the 43rd Baeksang Arts Award for “Best New Actress” in 2007.

On March 7, 2019, it was disclosed that during the filming of Haechi, she ruptured her Anterior talofibular ligament and was hospitalized.
