She is best recognized for her work with the BBC as both a radio reporter and within their documentary department for Turkish news. Banu Avar was born on July 18, 1955, in Eskisehir, Turkey. She has written about several international politicians as well including John McCain and Recep Tayyip Erdogan. She started her career after earning her Master’s degree from City University in London. She then started working as a writer for the Turkish magazine Surec in 1980 before joining the newspapers Gunaydin and Dunya. She made her television debut with the Turkish BBC network.
