Unplug reported on June 17, 2012, that Thurston had left the Internet, claiming to be on vacation.

That meant no updates, responses, check-ins, likes, taps, pokes, noogies, tickles, or headlocks on social media. Thurston stated that he would not check his email and would instead look people in the eyes.
