Brian Deese- Professional Career
Deese worked at the Center for Global Development as a research assistant and as a junior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Later, he worked as a senior policy analyst for economic policy at the Center for American Progress under Gene Sperling. After leaving the Center for American Progress, Deese joined Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.
After Clinton was defeated in the primaries, Deese served as an economic adviser to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign in 2008. At the commencement of Obama’s presidency, Brian was appointed as a special assistant to the president for economic policy on the National Economic Council.
In 2011, Deese was appointed deputy director of the NEC. He was in charge of policy formulation for the White House in the areas of taxes, financial regulation, housing, renewable energy, manufacturing, and the automobile sector. Deese was appointed deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget in the summer of 2013. He was renamed Senior Advisor to the President.
While serving in this capacity, Deese was instrumental in the December 2015 talks for the Paris Climate Agreement. Brian had an important role in the 2015 Bipartisan Budget Act, which increased federal spending. In February 2016, President Obama named Deese to oversee the Supreme Court nomination process.
